Dear Friends of ICE,

After a brief winter lull, ICE is back in action. We'll be in both
cities this week, so there's something for everyone.

For our New York audiences, please join us for the next installment of
ICETank on Wednesday night:

Sonic Meditations: Music for Solo Percussion
David Schotzko, solo percussion
ICETank: Wednesday, March 5, 7 pm (note early start time)
The Tank, 279 Church Street (between Franklin and White)
New York, NY

 Program:
Javier Alvarez: Temazcal for maracas and tape (1986)
Alvin Lucier: Silver Streetcar for the Orchestra for solo amplified
triangle (1988)
Otto Muller: Idaho/Gelboe for solo percussion (2007)** world premiere
James Tenney: Koan - Having Never Written a Note for Percussion (1972)
Iannis Xenakis: Psappha for solo percussion (1976)

For our Chicago audiences, we'll be storming the Windy City with three
different performances over the weekend:

First off, we are honored to be the ensemble to give the WORLD
PREMIERE of Cliff Colnot's stunning new arrangement of a 20th century
masterpiece: Olivier Messiaen's "Chants de terre et de ciel,"
originally scored for voice and piano. Colnot has arranged this work
for mezzo-soprano (the sensational Julia Bentley) and eight
instruments.

ICE is pleased to present this work on the opening concert of the
Music Institute of Chicago's Four Score Festival, a special four-day
series in celebration of the lifetime achievements of four major
composers. "Chants de terre=E2=80=A6" will be premiered alongside a program=
 of
other Messiaen masterworks, performed by many exciting local musicians
and ensembles.

ICE performs Messiaen/Colnot WORLD PREMIERE
Friday, March 7, 7:30 pm
Music Institute of Chicago
1490 Chicago Avenue
Evanston, IL
Tickets at www.musicinst.org or (847) 905-1500 ext. 108.

Then, on Saturday, March 8, we are excited to be collaborating with
members of the Chicago Composers Forum and the world-renowned Zhou
Brothers on New Music PLUS Painting at Columbia College's Conway
Center.

This collaboration with the Zhou Brothers (Shan Zuo and Da Huang
Zhou), CCF-featured composers Nathan Davis, Guillermo Gregorio, Ryan
Ingebritsen, and Christopher Preissing, and the International
Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) will transform the Conway Center into a
landscape of new art and new music. Doors open at 6pm. Live painting
and performance
begins at 7pm.

DREAM DIALOGUE - Over the past 30 years, the Zhou Brothers have
developed a collaborative creation technique that is completely unique
and visionary. The concept of the "Dream Dialogue" being the primary
means of communication between two artists during the act of creation
is one that has implications outside the act of art creation in and of
itself. It inspires a curiosity in what such collaboration could mean
to the human experience.
